About
Mohamed Madi is a London-based filmmaker and senior journalist for BBC News. He has reported from over 30 countries over the last 10 years, including Libya, Venezuela and Ukraine.
In this time he has covered many of the major events of the last decade, including the Arab Spring, the European migrant crisis and the rise of Islamic State.
In addition to award-winning news coverage, he is also a self-shooting documentary producer/director. His documentaries focus on identity, migration and human rights.
His most recent documentary, From Kurdistan with Sorrow, focused on the worst migrant boat disaster recorded in the English Channel.
Mohamed was selected to be a 2022 Ochberg Fellow by the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma. He is also a Fellow of the John Schofield Trust, a charity devoted to widening access to journalism in the UK.
He speaks fluent Arabic and is hostile-environment trained.
Training and public speaking
Mohamed has conducted training for the BBC World Service, the Media Trust, John Schofield Trust and others. His training has covered storytelling, remote production and safety.
He has also spoken at Oxford University, Exeter University, the Frontline Club and others about his journalism and filmmaking.
